Holiday break is over and it’s time for the second half of the school year. Even with the practice of the last several months, the morning frenzy can still leave us with a rushed and pressured start to the day. We don’t want to send our dear children off to school with the taste of the family frenzy in their mouths. To get a good start to each day, try some of these things:
- All hands on deck: Get everyone up at the same time. Plan a few things each child can do to help everyone in the morning. A five-year-old can learn to make toast, and an eight-year-old can help gather coats and backpacks. Age appropriate helping can make a big difference.
- Plan: You don’t necessarily have to lay out clothing and get every lunch packed the night before, but at least spend a few minutes thinking about what will go in those lunches. Don’t get caught out of ideas in a time crunch.
- Affection: When it is time to go, kisses and hugs all around. It only takes a moment to make sure our kids know that no matter how on-task we need to be, they are important.
