This post is a little shorter than the previous three. One of the ways I see God working most on behalf of the orphan is by moving others to adopt. In the last few months we’ve heard about three different families prompted by the Lord to adopt. Two of those families are actively pursuing an adoption and the other family will do so within the next couple of years.
Adoption is an act of faith. You can do it without the Lord, but the reality is that it was His idea to begin with. As He adopts us, we also are moved to adopt the vulnerable among us. The journey takes faith, and like any other challenging experience, we learn things about God that we don’t learn any other way.
It’s easy to feel jaded, like the church isn’t moving quickly enough or far enough. That may be true. Intercountry adoption in particular is falling significantly as people realize that there are fewer and fewer tiny children who look like them. However, it begins in the heartbeat of one couple, and then another, and then another. It becomes contagious. Testimonies are built as others watch the journey. Churches are engaged in efforts of support, pastors are moved to teach the theology of adoption and then it begins all over again…in the heartbeat of one couple. How are you seeing it happen in your world?
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” -Romans 8:15
