Day Eight – God’s Littlest Angels

I’ve highlighted God’s Littlest Angels Haitian baby ministry in the past. However, it has come to mind in regard to this blog challenge because of something I continually see happening there: sponsorship. Tom Vanderwell serves on the board for GLA. Here are some of his recent posts:

“Dayana has another sponsor! Thank you for supporting our kids! http://ow.ly/hG7gF

Derson’s eyes – look at the difference – and he’s got another sponsor praying for him now! Thank you! http://ow.ly/hG7Qp

“Beny might be the strong silent type – but he still needs support – and he’s got another family sponsoring him! http://ow.ly/hG7wU

I’ve seen these in the last week or so, and several other posts for other things Tom is working on for GLA. It’s easy to feel like the church is wakening much too slowly when it comes to orphan care. However, GLA, Tom, and believers world-wide are a perfect example of the body of Christ coming together to fulfill James 1:27. This global network of people, most of whom don’t even know one another, is moving on behalf of vulnerable children by supporting GLA or individual children at GLA. The team at GLA not only does child sponsorship, but raises funds to send children to school so that they can break out of the cycle of illiteracy and poverty. They are not only caring for orphans, but also caring for intact families in Haiti by helping send children to school, providing jobs (all of the nannies at GLA are Haitian women), and running a legitimate NICU so that they can nurse children back to health so that they can be placed back with their families if their families choose not to place their children for adoption. They teach these mothers how to keep their little ones healthy as they place the child back into the family.

This team is doing significant and legitimate orphan care and family preservation work in the name of Jesus Christ. They are a shining example of God at work.  Take a look at how HE decided to start GLA:
